DEPARTMENT OF SOCIO-CHARITABLE WORKS

The Department of Socio-Charitable Works has the primary task of promoting charitable and solidarity works, mutual aid, respect for human dignity and emergency interventions.

 

Projects

1.Economic and Social empowerment Project for Vulnerable Youth in the Diocese of Gikongoro and Cyangugu for a period of three years from May 2023 to April 2026.

Key achievements:

      • Provision of support to 110 Saving and Internal Lending communities reacted by Caritas Gikongoro to facilitate their operation,
      • 1564 youth members of Saving and Internal Lending communities trained on the initiation and management of income generating activities,   
      • Awareness sessions were organized to youth on dignified and exemplary behavior in the community.
2. Child Empowerment Program to improve health and educationninclusion for children with disability under the support of National Union of disabilities organisations in Rwanda

Achievements:

      • 22 children were supported to find medical care;
      • 35 children were supported with school fees and school materials;
      • 4 young people were supported with startup tool kits for making shoes
      • 72 vulnerable families of the children with disabilities were supported with livestock;
      • Home visits were carried out to the family of people with disabilities requesting for support to understand the real problem and define the appropriate support to respond to it.
3. Project of Adoption du Coeur, started in 2026 for improving education and health care of children from vulnerable families in Gikongoro Diocese under the Support of Pallotin Father of Slovakie

Key achievements:

      • Provision of support of schools fees and materials to 1023 children from vulnerable families,
      • Organise annual celebration with children supported by the Project of Adoption du Coeur together with their parents, the Project volunteers in the parish and the parish priest to praise  God for having adoptive parents and to pray for the supporters and their and their whole families.
      • Provision of support of livestock to 7 families with children supported by the Project to improve their livelihoods
      • Facilitate 3poor families with children supported by the Project to improve their shelters (houses)
5. Direct support and mobilisation at Caritas Gikongoro

The achievements:

      • Receiving vulnerable people with different problem for support and advocacy;
      • Provision of direct support composed of school fees, school materials, vulnerable students;
      • Payment of health insurance, medical fees and transport to patients from poor families.
      • Organise awareness sessions on the Month of Charity and Mercy (August) in each of twenty parishes of the Catholic Diocese of Gikongoro to mobilize internal funds from Christians in order to support others in needs.
