The success of 2023 to be shared

  • CDJP and CPJP have developed a system of synergy, online reporting and joint planning of activities. These actions have enabled us to deliver good, fast and efficient services to beneficiaries, where everyone has played a big part in implementing activities, to have consolidated quarterly reports and to share them in leaflets in the parishes and administrative sectors of Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru districts. These activities have had a major impact on the social cohesion of Unity and Reconciliation Association members, as new members’ membership and participation have increased.
  • Justice et Paix ??? committees are fully staffed at all levels.
  • In addition, the CDJP Gikongoro can share a great success in its women’s programs. Having been trained in their roles and responsibilities and in basic community facilitation techniques, community activists are now mobilizing in their respective villages on the prevention of and fight against GBV, a clear understanding of gender equality and equity, and the importance of women’s participation in decision-making, with a view to sharing what they have learned with other untrained community members.
  • Thanks to the various activities offered to the population, the District of Nyaruguru thanked the CDJP Gikongoro, giving it a cup for best performance among the other civil society partners working in this district.
  • Several people have registered their land and registered children born out of wedlock, following mobilization on the laws.
  • Awareness-raising by CIU, the CDJP’s implementing partner, at various retreats and training courses for ex-prisoners, their spouses and children, has helped some people with trauma problems to find active listening services to begin individual and group counseling.

Success stories

“My name is Rwabuyonza Charles. I am here as a representative of the released prisoners who committed genocide against the Tutsis, to ask forgiveness for the crimes we committed, including the killing of people, sexual violence, destruction of homes, etc. We ask forgiveness for all these crimes. We ask forgiveness for all these crimes, please forgive us.”

“My name is Mukakabanda Juliette, and I represent the survivors of the genocide. I am a widow, my husband and my two children were killed during the genocide. On behalf of my fellow genocide survivors, I attest that we have forgiven those who killed our people and destroyed our homes. With the support of the Justice and Peace Commission and its teachings, and having seen that they ask forgiveness from the bottom of their hearts, we have forgiven them. For the time being, we have grouped together in savings and credit associations, which intervene to settle the problems of survivors and released prisoners without distinction. We meet within the association without any confrontation. We lead a peaceful life thanks to the support of the Justice and Peace Commission.”

Success stories

“My name is Nkusi Emmanuel. When I was released from prison, I had a conflict with my wife, because she had given birth to a child out of marriage. Thanks to the support and teaching of the Justice and Peace Commission, peace has returned to our family.”

“My name is Murekatete BĂ©ata. When my husband was released from prison, he came home. Since he arrived home, we’ve had a conflict with him, saying that I gave birth to a child that doesn’t belong to him. The husband abused me every day. But thanks to the training and teachings of the Justice and Peace Commission, we live peacefully in our family. “
