{"id":278,"date":"2026-03-26T09:29:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T09:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/divi-site\/?page_id=278"},"modified":"2026-04-13T08:24:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T08:24:18","slug":"health-nutrition","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/caritascdjpgikongoro.org\/?page_id=278","title":{"rendered":"Health &#038; Nutrition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Health Department has as its strategic objective: <strong>&ldquo;The accessibility and quality of health services are improved.&rdquo;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Health coverage in the Diocese of Gikongoro<\/h3>\n<p>The Catholic Diocese of Gikongoro has <strong>eleven (11) health centres<\/strong> serving a total population of <strong>230,398 people<\/strong>, distributed as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nyamagabe District:<\/strong> 108,653 people<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nyaruguru District:<\/strong> 91,837 people<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nyanza District:<\/strong> 29,908 people<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Actions to increase use of health services<\/h3>\n<h4>1. Mobilisation on health mutual insurance and service utilization<\/h4>\n<p>At the beginning of each annual budget, community mobilisation on health-insurance payment is organised at cell level. The population receives information on available health services, and poor households are assisted to obtain health insurance.<\/p>\n<h4>2. Quarterly coordination meetings with health centre managers (matrons \/ titularies)<\/h4>\n<p>Monitoring and evaluation of health centre activities are conducted through supervision visits, field follow-up, and <strong>quarterly coordination meetings<\/strong>, where health indicators are reviewed and recommendations for continuous improvement are agreed.<\/p>\n<h4>3. World Day of the Sick<\/h4>\n<p>In collaboration with parishes, health centres organize the <strong>World Day of the Sick<\/strong> from <strong>11 February<\/strong>, according to their annual plans. Activities include Holy Mass for the sick, home\/hospital visits, and social support (food, clothing, and hygiene materials).<\/p>\n<h4>4. Promotion of natural family planning methods (NFP)<\/h4>\n<p>Promotion of natural family planning is carried out through NFP awareness, initial and refresher training for educators, and follow-up of couples using these methods.
